System Design Engineer III, Applied Materials
Required Knowledge & Experience: Skills and abilities to perform job include: strong analytical skills; strong oral and written communication skills including specification development; strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills; very computer literate; detail orientated; exercises mature judgment; ability to work in a team; ability to work independently; ability to influence other people; ability to act as mentor; and ability to determine production worthiness for projects. Knowledge and skills typically acquired by a completed BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline [or equivalent knowledge] and 5+ years directly related experience; MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline [or equivalent knowledge] and 2+ years directly related experience preferred. Preferred previous work experience includes: system engineering experience in a development or manufacturing environment, or engineering experience working directly on AMAT products.

Job Specific Knowledge & Experience: Support system engineering projects that have a substantial mix of electrical, mechanical, and software design, and understand the underlying system implications. This position is in the Solar Business Group.

Responsibilities: Insure that all new designs of hardware and software meets the MRS, and are reliable, safe, user friendly and maintainable by the field. Assist in creating the system engineering specification and write the portion of the system engineering specification pertaining to field of technical expertise. Perform and coordinate tests, and provide feedback to product engineering and software on new designs and ongoing engineering improvements. Problem identification and troubleshooting a wide range of complex engineering problems in field of technical expertise, including serviceability and manufacturability. Support System Integration during the assembly and final testing of new product designs. Assist in defining all external equipment interfaces and insure they are up to date and documented. Work with vendors to improve upon existing products, including development of key suppliers. Contribute to the Product Development Process. Keep abreast of new CESs.
