Process Support Engineer, Applied Materials

Position Purpose
Executes Process Engineering projects (typically at customer sites).  The projects serve to qualify or improve the process performance of AMAT installed base. Position acts as a conduit for technical information between customer, product group and sales.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots system performance issues and implements appropriate resolution under supervision of a more senior PSE. 
  • Leverages technical expertise for broader value to the customer. 
  • Network with global technology community on assigned product(s).
  • Performs system start-up support in phase T2, T3R, T3 for two processes.
  • Plans and execute T2 without supervision.
  • Includes Basic Process / AMAT standard process verification.
  • Plans and executes T3R without supervision.
  • Includes verification of existing customer-specific process.
  • Executes T3 under supervision.
  • Includes development of process according to customer specifications and based on established reference processes.
  • Provides service support to maintain customer process specifications and/or BKM performance.
  • Develops technical knowledge base on assigned product(s). 
  • Active member of local account team. 
  • Support customer product demonstrations with PBG.
  • Member of multi-disciplinary teams. 
  • Executes assigned JDA, alpha and beta sites activities under close supervision. 
  • Includes work on new processes according to customer specifications, without benefit of reference processes.
  • Ensures individual capabilities meet local technical requirements on assigned product(s), includes coordinating with manager/supervisor for development planning. 
  • Demonstrates consistent progress towards PSE3 qualification.
  • Participates in training activities consistent with defined program requirements.

  • Executes Process engineering project(s) independently or in a team environment.
  • Actively fosters technical contacts on the user level.

  • Provides solutions to a variety of problems.
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

Impact:

  • Failure to achieve results or erroneous decisions or recommendations may cause loss of customer satisfaction/single tool performance effected.

Interaction:

  • Under general supervision, interacts with engineers and first level managers at the customer site. 
  • Works internally with applications lab engineers, CE’s and other PSE’s.

Job Specifications

Knowledge:

  • Requires working knowledge of chemical, electrical, magnetic, material science, or mechanical concepts and techniques and limited knowledge of material characterization. 
  • Requires working knowledge of software and hardware installation, setup, operation and troubleshooting, including recipe and sequence preparation, running wafers and wafer evaluation, including metrology.
  • Requires working level understanding of system performance including process performance and possible effects on the output of the assigned system (run rate and availability).

Skills and Abilities:

  • Skills and abilities to perform job: basic engineering project execution, data analysis, root cause problem analysis, written and oral communications; ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus.
  • Process skills depth & breadth as defined in the PSE Development Roadmap.

Education and Experience:

  • AS and  6 - 7 years of directly related experience; or equivalent.
  • BSEET and  4 - 5 years of directly related experience; or equivalent.
  • BS in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline and  3 - 4 years of directly related experience; or equivalent.
  • MS in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline and  0 - 1 year of directly related experience; or equivalent.
