Education:
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
Experience:
Fabrication and testing of crystalline silicon solar cells is desirable, but not required.
Position Description:
Suniva, Inc. was founded in August, 2007 with ties to the University Center of Excellence
for Photovoltaics at Georgia Tech. Suniva’s mission is to commercialize high efficiency
crystalline silicon solar cells based on technology developed at Georgia Tech. The position
to be filled requires a willingness and ability to execute standard solar cell fabrication
processes, such as wafer cleaning and texturing, phosphorus and boron diffusion, thermal
oxidation, silicon nitride deposition, and screen printing and firing of metal contacts.
Associated support functions, such as disposal of spent chemicals, cleaning of PECVD boats,
and maintenance of processing equipment are also required.
A familiarity with common solar cell measurements, such as lighted and dark I-V, spectral
response, reflectivity, internal quantum efficiency, ellipsometry, Suns-Voc, and
photoconductivity decay is a plus. Typically these measurements will be carried out under
the direction of a senior member of the R&D staff. Familiarity with general scientific
equipment and instrumentation, as well as with sensors and basic computer controls is
desirable. Equipment skills, in general, are highly valued, including the ability to
trouble-shoot electrical, mechanical, and vacuum problems typically found in solar cell
processing and test equipment.
Emphasis is on the advancement of one-sun cell performance (efficiency) using manufacturable
processes developed for high throughput, high yield, and low cost. Skills and knowledge
which facilitate such advancement are sought. Related experience, for example from the
silicon microelectronics industry, is also valued.
The work environment is schedule-oriented and schedule-driven. The ability to follow an
experimental plan, as defined by a senior member of the R&D staff, in a systematic fashion
and to reliably acquire and document data is required for this position. Key personal
qualities are organization and completeness so that experiments and processes can be
conducted in a careful, consistent, well documented, and thorough manner. The successful
candidate will be part of a technical team, so the ability to take direction and to work
well with fellow team members is essential. A very significant component of the work is
hands-on.
Salary: Commensurate with prior experience and accomplishments.
Professional References: Three required.
